Accountability¶
Zajil's anti-abuse posture is attribution and revocation, never inspection. This is a stronger position than the large platforms occupy, not a weaker one — and it is what makes the network halal by construction without ever weakening the encryption.
The leverage: identity, not content¶
Every device on the network maps to a human whose ID was checked at a desk. There is no anonymous account creation, no bulk registration, no throwaway identity. So:
- A report resolves to a named person in one roster lookup.
- Revocation removes them from the network and is visible to the institution.
- The deterrent is knowing you are known — not being watched.
Physical enrollment is what delivers this on day one. It is the whole reason the network can be closed to misuse while staying end-to-end encrypted.
Why not just inspect content?¶
Because the same capability that would let an operator read traffic is the capability that makes a compromised Barid node survivable. Build a content-inspection path and every future attacker who takes a server inherits it — you would spend the entire trust model denying attackers a capability, then hand it to them at the application layer.
Enforcement is attribution + revocation, not content inspection
Payloads stay end-to-end encrypted. Abuse is handled by resolving identity and revoking access. Content inspection is rejected because it is precisely the capability that would make server compromise catastrophic.
The comparison¶
| Large platforms | Zajil | |
|---|---|---|
| Account creation | Anonymous, bulk, instant | In person, one human, one slot |
| Abuse response | Scan content, hope to catch it | Resolve identity, revoke |
| A compromised server reads… | Often, plaintext or metadata at scale | Ciphertext + per-cell metadata only |
| Deterrent | Detection after the fact | Identity known before the fact |
What accountability does not mean¶
- It does not mean reading messages. It cannot; they are encrypted.
- It does not mean a global view. A compromised cell sees only its own metadata.
- It does not mean the operator is trusted with content. The operator is trusted with identity issuance — the root of an owned network — and nothing more.
The line to hold, permanently: attribution gets you enforcement without the trade. Keep it separate from inspection, forever.
